Designing a fun and balanced 5v5 FPS Map
This FPS 5v5 map is an ongoing project inspired by the classic three-lane structure seen in Call of Duty maps. The design focuses on flexibility to support multiple gameplay modes, such as Domination, Search and Destroy, Team Deathmatch, or King of the Hill, ensuring varied and engaging experiences for players.
Currently, Team A spawns in the forge area and can choose from three lanes: heading directly to Team B's Domination flag in the gun range, contesting the middle flag in the loading dock area, or securing their own flag in the storage room. Similarly, Team B spawns in the gun range building, giving them quick access to the flag in their lane. Both teams are positioned roughly 15 seconds away from the central objective, ensuring balanced gameplay and fast-paced action.
The loading dock area, with its elevated terrain, provides a natural spot for King of the Hill objectives or high-stakes firefights in other game modes. Planned additions include a second floor in the loading dock and the completion of the security building, which will add new verticality and tactical opportunities.
In its current stage, the blockmesh focuses on flow and spatial readability, with plans for a second pass to refine each room’s layout. This iteration will include the addition of furniture and other assets to serve as functional cover, providing more precise and realistic interactions for players. The goal is to create an environment that balances strategic depth with fast-paced gameplay, supporting both competitive and casual play styles.
This project continues to be an exercise in improving blockmesh design, focusing on flow, balance, and the dynamic use of space. Each iteration brings it closer to becoming a polished, versatile map that encourages thoughtful team strategies and exciting encounters.
